Ancestors in the Dust
Lyrics by Drew Dale
Verse 1

I don’t know if there’s a god, but some folks say they’ve seen,
A higher hand that guides ’em through the spaces in between.
But I lean on my ancestor spirits when the world feels hard to bear,
They shaped this land beneath my feet, their stories in the air.
Eighty thousand years they’ve walked this ground,
And I still feel their footsteps every time I look around.
Their wisdom in the dust, their truth in every sound.

Chorus
My ancestor spirits, they whisper in the dust,
Teaching me the old ways, reminding me to trust.
If we listened to their wisdom, we’d heal more than we’d lose,
’Cause the earth they left behind wasn’t ours to abuse.
In a world that’s moving faster than we can understand,
Their ancient truth is steady like this red dirt land.
My ancestor spirits walking with me hand in hand.

Verse 2
I see rivers running dry where they once ran strong and clear,
Forests falling silent where their songs filled every year.
They taught us how to walk the land with gentle, steady care,
To take only what we needed and leave balance living there.
But the modern world keeps pushing till the breaking point is near,
And I wonder what they’d tell us if we stopped enough to hear.
Their voices in the wind, their warnings ringing clear.

Chorus
My ancestor spirits, they whisper in the dust,
Teaching me the old ways, reminding me to trust.
If we followed their instruction, we’d mend more than we’d lose,
’Cause the earth they left behind wasn’t ours to misuse.
In a world that’s crying out for something real and true,
Their ancient wisdom still shows us what we’re meant to do.
My ancestor spirits guiding every move.

Bridge
We’ve drifted far from balance, lost in noise and greed,
But the old ways hold the answers to the future that we need.
If we turn back to their teachings, let the land become our guide,
We might find a way to save the world before the tide.

Final Chorus
My ancestor spirits, they whisper in the dust,
Teaching me the old ways, reminding me to trust.
If we listened to their wisdom, we’d heal more than we’d lose,
’Cause the earth they left behind wasn’t ours to abuse.
And I’ll walk this land with their strength in my chest,
Their stories in my footsteps, their courage in my breath.
And I’ll keep their fire burning,
Doing what they taught us best.
